Manual lymphatic drainage

When does it apply?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, skin-stretching massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid from the swollen limb. It should not be confused with traditional massage. MLD is specifically focused on the lymphatic vessels to help the flow of lymph fluid.

Applied in:

  • primary or secondary lymphedema, lipedema
  • phlebo-lymphostatic edema
  • postoperative edema
  • post-traumatic edema
  • chronic venous insufficiency

What are the main benefits?

Manual lymphatic drainage specifically focuses on the lymphatic vessels to help the flow of lymph fluid. The therapy is applied first to the unaffected areas, making it possible for the fluid to move away from the affected area or to “decongest” the region. MLD helps to open up the remaining functioning lymphatic areas as well as speeding up the flow of lymph fluid.
